A Solution For Those False Alarm Problems Caused By PIR Motion Sensors In A Challenging Environment!
Motion sensors have been a part of home security systems for a very long time. Over the years the technology that makes them work has changed a few times as new & better technologies came along. The first motion detectors that I remember been used, was ultrasonic motion detectors that used high frequency sound waves to sense movement within a protected area. A newer and better technology came along for motion detectors & that was microwave technology. The Microwave motion detectors worked a little like the ultrasonic motion detectors, but instead of sending out sound waves they sent out ultra high frequency radio waves. In the 1980s a new technology emerged for motion sensors & that technology designed motion detectors to detect infrared energy. Passive infrared (PIR) sensors detect infrared energy (heat) that emanates from our bodies. PIR motion sensors have become & still are today the most widely used motion detection device on the market. They are very cost effective as they are able to protect many different size areas. These sensors can be purchased for wired & wireless systems. These infrared detectors are more reliable than previous models that used ultrasonic & microwave technologies but they may still trigger false alarms in a challenging environment. There are a couple of things you may want to look at doing if your motion detector repeatedly triggers a false alarm. • If you have a pet in your home that is causing false alarms, you can likely fix this problem with a PIR motion detector that is designed to ignore pets at a certain weight. You can purchase PIR motion detectors that will ignore pets weighing up to 80 lbs. • If your false alarm appears to be caused by some type of heat source in your home, you may want to try & remove the source away from the protection area. If this is not possible you may want to double check that your motion detectors are at the right height as well as ensuring that the correct lenses on you detectors are being used. Most motion detectors come with a few different lenses. These lenses have different detection patterns, so you want to ensure that the place that is been detected has the most appropriate lens for the area the sensor is covering.
• If none of the above solutions are able to fix your false alarms the next solution is guaranteed to fix the problem, but it will cost you a little bit of money. You will have to replace any motion sensors that continue to trigger false alarms with a PIR motion detector that uses dual technology. Motion detectors that use dual technology were designed specifically to eliminate any false alarm problems caused by troubling environments. A dual technology detection device has two sensors housed in the one detection unit, using two different technologies. The two technologies used in dual tech sensors are PIR infrared & microwave technologies. For additional information on dual technology & its detection devices you should view the content on my
