With Technological Advancements The Wireless Home Security System Finally Makes The Grade!

Over the last decade or so the wireless home security system has become technologically advanced & extremely reliable. Ten plus years ago, I would have tried to discourage anyone who was looking at putting a wireless system in their home. Wireless systems have come a long way in the past decade or so. Not only have they become a lot cheaper, they have become much more reliable then what they once were.

Due to a lot of outdated & erroneous information on the internet, many people still see wireless home security systems as an inferior product that performs poorly. The three biggest problems that wireless home security systems once had was:

• The transmission distance of the wireless signal was very limited.

• Common frequencies were used for wireless systems which made the signal more susceptible to interference from other devices.

• The short battery life of many wireless components was also a common problem.

These three biggest issues of common frequencies, limited transmission distances, & poor battery life have long been corrected.

These substandard wireless systems are a thing of the past due to better encryption and the use of rolling code technology. Some companies for example like GE Security, manufacture wireless home security systems that use lithium batteries to power the systems components & sensors. They offer a 10 year warranty on some of these batteries but estimate they could last up to 15 or 20 years.

How A Wireless Home Security System & Its Add On Components Work!

Wireless home security systems & all of it’s add on components & detection devices work basically the same as a wired system. The big difference of course is that almost all the systems components & devices are powered by batteries, not hydro.

The three main components of a wireless system are the control panel, keypad & sounding device & the three main detection devices are magnetic, glass break, & PIR motion sensors. These components & devices function the same in a hardwired system as they do in a wireless system. If you visit my home alarm systems web page you will see how each of these components & devices work.

A wireless control panel has a keypad housed in the one unit with a battery backup inside & it operates on hydro not batteries. Many folks do not realize that the wireless control panel/keypad needs to be placed in an obscure area the same as a wired control panel.

If you purchase a wireless alarm kit & the only keypad that comes with it is housed together with the control panel, you will need to purchase a separate keypad. You quite possibly could find a place in your home to conceal this dual unit & at the same time still have access to the keypad. For more detailed information on this please visit my wireless home security kits web page.

Depending on the model, some keypad/control panels are capable of supporting a limited number of hard wire zones. A system that uses both hard wired & wireless components & devices is referred to as a Hybrid security system.

The sounding device is a very crucial component in any wired or wireless security system.

You have a few different options when it comes to choosing an appropriate sounding device(s) for your system. Since the sounding device provides such an important function, I am only listing the two best options for you below:

• If your wireless system supports one or two hard wire zones, you may want to look at hard wiring the sounding device(s) for your system. If you choose this method you will need to ensure that this hardwired alarm has its own battery backup.

• You can also purchase a sounding device that with a DC adapter plugs directly into a household receptacle. This sounding device has its own battery backup & it is activated by a wireless signal from your control panel.

For information on what is involved in installing a wireless home security system please check out my wireless home security kits web page.

A wireless security system offers much more than protecting your home against burglary & home invasion. There are a number of other sensors & devices that a wireless home security system can support. These non-intrusion detection devices can safe guard you, your family & your home from a variety of emergency situations.

Some of these emergency or non-intrusion detection sensors include:
• Smoke Detectors

• Carbon Monoxide Detectors

• Water Flood Detectors

• Temperature Sensors

• Heat Sensors

• Freeze Sensors

You can find detailed information about these & other devices on my home security devices web page.
